Abstract

Abstract. Generally, churches in Indonesia are still vulnerable to social challenges. On the one hand, churches are open to external values, but on the other hand, they are closed because they are considered to be detrimental to their teachings. The purpose of this study is to explain how the construction of a social theology of the church can respond to the problems related to open and closed churches. This paper will offer the concept of a new wall ecclesiology built on the thoughts of Wayne A. Meeks and Robert J. Banks on church relations. By placing relational ecclesiological freedom within the new wall, specifically bound freedom as a response to the social freedom of the church, this paper emphasizes the need for churches to open themselves and go out, but without losing their ecclesiological identity.
